Remarkable 48 Years Journey


In 1976, the landscape of blood donation in Surat vastly differed from what it is today. Patients in need of blood had to rely on commercial blood banks, where the quality of blood varied, and access was often limited by availability and cost. These commercial banks sourced blood from professional donors, many of whom were poor and diseased, raising concerns about the safety and reliability of the blood supply.

At that time, voluntary blood donation initiatives were few and far between, leading to a fragmented and unreliable blood donation system in the Surat city & District. The absence of a dedicated voluntary blood donation group meant that this critical aspect of healthcare was underserved and overlooked.

The Birth of Surat Raktadan Kendra and Research Centre:
In response to this pressing need for a more organised and ethical approach to blood donation, Surat Raktadan Kendra and Research Centre was established. Founded with a vision to revolutionize the blood donation landscape, the centre embarked on a remarkable journey to transform the way blood was collected, stored, and distributed in Surat and beyond.
